⭐ Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from the research process?
A structured, evidence‑based approach with clear communication at key milestones. You’ll receive updates, findings, and next steps as the project progresses.
How long does a typical project take?
Timelines vary depending on the service, complexity, and record availability. Most projects range from 2–8 weeks.
Can you guarantee you’ll find specific ancestors or answers?
No genealogist can guarantee specific discoveries. What I can guarantee is thorough, ethical, well‑documented research.
Do you work with DNA results?
Yes. I interpret DNA matches, clusters, and patterns to support traditional research. I do not provide medical or legal DNA analysis.
Do I need an Ancestry or DNA account?
Not always, but access to your Ancestry tree or DNA match list can significantly improve the accuracy and depth of your results.
Will my information be kept private?
Absolutely. All client data is confidential and never shared without written permission.
What if I’m not sure which service I need?
You don’t have to know. Many clients come with questions, not answers. I’ll help you determine the best starting point.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, for larger projects. Payment plans can be arranged upon request.
Can you help with adoption or unknown parentage cases?
Yes — depending on the complexity. These cases often require DNA analysis and extended timelines.

🧭About Kimberly

My connection to genealogy didn’t begin in adulthood — it began in childhood. I’ve always been fascinated by lineage, history, and the stories families carry. As a direct descendant of early American settlers, understanding my own heritage has always felt deeply meaningful, and that personal connection shaped the way I see history.I began formally researching my genealogy in early 2012, long before I ever imagined it becoming part of my professional life. Over the years, I’ve traced colonial New England lines, studied migration patterns, analyzed DNA matches, and built a documented, multi‑generation family history. What started as personal curiosity became a steady, grounding practice — one that blended research, intuition, and a genuine love for understanding how people become who they are.Professionally, my early career was rooted in law. I worked as a legal secretary, senior paralegal, and office manager before joining the American Arbitration Association, where I served as a senior case manager in the Pro Se Department. I later ran the NC Hurricane Disaster Relief Mediation program, helping families and insurance companies navigate complex, emotionally charged disputes. That work taught me how to manage details, read between the lines, and guide people through uncertainty with clarity and care. When my health shifted during COVID, I stepped away from the legal field and moved into creative work — first through a boutique I ran with my daughters, and later through independent design projects. Creativity became a way to stay connected to myself while everything else was changing. As I continued researching my own lineage, I realized how naturally my skills translated: legal analysis, mediation instincts, pattern recognition, narrative understanding, and a deep respect for the human stories behind every document. Genealogy wasn’t a new direction — it was the through‑line I’d been following since childhood.Today, I bring all of that experience into HomeRidge Studio.
My work blends:
- the precision of legal research
- the steadiness of mediation
- the creativity of storytelling
- the intuition that comes from lived experience
- and more than a decade of genealogical research
I am also a member of the National Genealogical Society (NGS), committed to ongoing education and professional standards in genealogical research.I help clients uncover their ancestry, solve family mysteries, interpret DNA results, and understand the emotional patterns woven through their history. My goal is simple: to offer clarity, connection, and a grounded understanding of the stories that shaped you.
